Kiersten Jerrett graduated with a BA Psychology from the University of Wollongong in 2004. She has over 5 years experience working with children with developmental delays and their families and specialises in Autism Spectrum Disorders. Kiersten has worked for ASPECT and has been employed by Giant Steps since 2006, where she provides support to children aged 3 - 12 years with ASD. At Giant Steps she was also involved with a research project focusing on the application of RDI principles within the classroom setting. Kiersten is experienced in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), is familiar with the principles of Relationship Development Intervention (RDI) and has an Advanced Behaviour Therapist Certificate. Kiersten provides early intervention to children with developmental delays and specialises in family-focused intervention programs for children with ASD Kiersten enjoys working closely with pre-schools providing support for the children she is seeing. Her programs focus on developing:
- communication
- play skills
- social skills
- daily living skills
- pre-academic skills
Her approach includes the principles of ABA, RDI, structured teaching and augmentative communication.
Julie Chesterfield has dual qualifications in education and psychology. She is a registered child and educational psychologist and a specialist teacher. Julie is an Associate Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and a professional member of SPELD (Specific Learning Difficulties Association of NSW). Julie has had considerable experience as a classroom teacher and a learning support teacher in both public and private schools. She has had postgraduate training in gifted education and learning difficulties and she has had specialist training in developmental reading difficulties. Julie has ten years' experience working with children and families in private practice.
Julie understands how difficulty with learning and behaviour erodes a child's self-esteem and confidence. She fosters belief in the unique qualities and talents of individuals and their need, and right, to fulfil their potential. Julie helps children and their parents to develop strategies to transcend difficulties and foster strengths in the areas of development, learning, literacy and numeracy |
